    Default Computer question

I have recently started using photobucket uploader and copy/paste URL to post pics. I have heard from you that some of the time rather than a pic you just get the red x. Well I noticed that when I post like that on here and preview my post they always come up, and when the thread is actually posted they come up but then somewhere along the line I lose them to the evil red x.

You may have noticed that in with my signature I recently used one of the free website programs to be able to have people view some fishing pics and had planned to expand it to my family, work, and such. Well tonight I go to my free web link to add a cpl pics and see that alot of my pics that were there and had been there 5-6 days since I started the thing are, you guessed it, red xs.

Does anyone have an explanation or remedy for this? I appreciate any help.

    Jeff,

I don't know about any of the other free services, or even the one's you pay for. I use photobucket, myself.

There are three tags under each picture that you upload to photobucket. Are you consistently using the BOTTOM one? That would be the IMG tag. That is the one I use. It puts the picture in your post, not an attachment. I've never had any problems with any of my pictures showing up, nor had anyone else say they couldn't see my pictures. (knock on wood)

If you use the wrong tag to copy and paste you may get different results.
The other reason I've seen the dreaded red x, is that you go back and delete that picture out of photobucket. If you look at some of the older posts where folks have put a picture in, you might see that red x. That's because the picture has been deleted from the host. (in this case photobucket)

Anyway.. just a couple thoughts. Hope they help, cuz here's one that has had her eyes on ole Boudreau!

The "red X" is a "placeholder" ... holding down the "place" where the applet "should" appear, but doesn't. Anchorpuller is right .... delete a pic from your hosting site, and everywhere that pic was previously posted will get a "red X" in its place. I've also seen a Photobucket screen that says something about the picture not being available, when clicking on picture URL's. I always assumed that particular picture had been removed from the Photobucket album of the person posting ... I never suspected that it could also be a control setting, javascript, or security setting that was preventing it from being seen/shown.

Thanks all, very much. I am sure that is it-I have been deleting pics periodicly from photobucket, thinking I have posted them where I wanted and now it has served its' purpose.

Photobucket is a hosting site, and pics must be "on the web" in order to be seen ... the IMG address is just a link, just like the URL address; with the exception that the IMG link brings up the picture (right then/there) - and the URL link brings up another screen with the picture on it, there.
When you delete a picture from your Photobucket album ... you delete the address to that picture, and sever the link between the hosting site and your posted images ... thus creating the "red X" as a placeholder for the missing image.

I would think that, if you wanted to place those images back in their former spots .... you'd have to put the pics back into Photobucket, with the same exact address as they were under before. If the images get a new address, by even one character, they'd be considered a totally new/different picture. Just IMHO ... I'm no computer geek, by any stretch ... LOL!!! .... cp
