Question How do you shorten a trolling motor shaft?

The wife bought me a bow mount Tm. it came with a 60" shaft, has anyone ever shortened one of these. It seems you could take the head of, cut the tube and just rework the wires. Anyone ever done this? Thanks for the help. Tony

I have and yes you can, but if it is new why? Take it back if you can. You shouldn't have to cut a bow mount motor down, it has a couppler that slides up and down that brings the motor up out of the water.
This only my opinion, but nothing you can say will change my mind. That makes it a FACT.

I don't have any experience with shortening TM shafts, but contact me if you ever need any advice on how to shorten a fishing rod . I even know where to recommend to get a new tip eye fitted to recently customized rods.

Just how much modification did the rod have ? I guess I'm just being nosey so
I can impress people by saying I have an acquintance who likes to take a rod down to 4 ft 9-11/32 inches for optimum performance.:D :D :D

I started with a 10' rod. Now, it is about 9' 4". I lost about 6" on the water and took off the other 2" afterwards to get the spacing between the eyes correct and to make sure I was past any splintering.

If i broke mine Wally Marshall's I would be without it for a while for sure. The (to me) cost a bit and the ole lady would not be thrilled. Course my birthday is coming this summer and I will be buying more.

Making any rod/shaft longer is always a difficult procedure, but I get about 20 emails per day telling me that all I need are some all-natural pills. haha
