    Default Lake Airfield (Wakefield VA)

VDGIF website "If you discover the secrets to Lake Airfield you will be rewarded with great fish" Lake Airfield

I have fished it five times, twice in the summer and three times from early to mid winter. the last time we went my dad (CrappieSnatcher) caught about a 2 lb Bass drift fishing a curlytail grub with an 1/8 oz head by the dam or spillway right by the ramp. The far side of the lake was iced over.

The Lake looks great! Lots of structure, but on average it seemed the depth was 6 ft. I have heard that it is spring fed but i dont know that that is true.

Has anyone had consistent success in Lake Airfield? What is the secret?

Dont know any secrets. The boys at the "fishing hole " told me thier is some very nice bass in there. I have fished it twice in March. 1 crappie and 1 flyer the first time. Corker and I worked it over pretty good the second time and ended up with fifteen keepers for a whole day a fishing if I remember correctly. Everything was on minners. The fish tasted kind of muddy to me.

havent had much luck there for two years now, and the crappie are not very fat when you do catch them. If you do go tho, try trolling, and an overcast or drizzly day is much better there. I have never caught crappie there on a full moon either.

My dad has a friend that bass fishes it frequently. He's gone a few times. They've taken some pics of some nice bass.

I also go to another forum that had a guy that's kayak fished it for crappie & bluegill over the past 3-4 years. He always did fairly well with a fly rod.

In 1998 my co-worker caught a 10lb bass there on a zoom worm, but I just catch grass.
