Default Report on the Blackwater for today

Got down to Franklin this afternoon and stopped at the new boat ramp. A fellow was parked at the ramp its' self so we pulled up next to him and I asked him if he knew if the yp where still in the river. He said he talked to a fisherman yesterday who said he had caught 30 yesterday afternnoon. While we where talking a boat pulled in to the dock. Asked the fisherman who came off the boat to get his truck and trailer if he did any good. He said he had caught about 15 yp but had threw them all back. Said he didn't eat them so he didn't keep them. Well I guess the yp are still here if anyone wants to try them this weekend. Has started to rain very lightly so I don't know how much rain we will get before Saturday.

    Default Blackwater

JIm B. The White Perch should be game when the Nottoway and Blackwater water temps hit 45 to 55 about another month... There is BIG Crappie in the Blackwater, persistence pays! Ive found them to be more tempermental than the lake crappie, when they are on they are on! The Biggest crappie Ive seen come out of the Blackwater was at the 58 Business Bypass Bridge in the middle of Summer,

Jim I can put you on the white perch when they start at the Nottoway and the Blackwater. I agree with Percidae the crappie are really tempermental. Both waters have a really weird flow and current but there are some big ones out there. I posted a few citations last year.

In years past I've always fished the white pearch, shad/herring and rock fish runs in the Blackwater and Nottoway Rivers. I just never paid any attention about the yellow pearch and never heard much about it until this year. Must be one of the better years in that I've heard more talk about it this year. In more recent years when the white pearch and shad are running it is the same time that the crappie are spawning up at Buggs and I do spend most my fishing time up there rather then on the river. Wish Shellquacker would have some input about this subject. I have fished some for crappie but I have had more better catches down river on the Chowan fishing blow down trees along the rivers bank. Up river I know some fisherman have caught some nice fish out of the deep holes at the rivers bends and also from docks and blow downs. Goatkisser has said he does most his fishing in the upper Nottoway which is a whole other world. They even have small mouth bass if you get above Courtland.

"Suprise, Suprise, Suprise". For some reason Jamie I always thought you where from Va. Beach for some reason. Good to find out your down here in this neck of the woods. We probably have bumped into each other and didn't know it.

You are correct Mister - I USED to live at the beach ( for 30 years ) I just moved out here in JUNE last year. I took the summer off and cleaned up my buddies old farmhouse and moved in here -

I save 2k a month and have my Horses right here at the homestead.

I EVEN SOLD MY SALTWATER BOAT- I go back and fish w/ my buddies each week.

I have fished here a time or two w/ no results.....Once the weather breaks I will master these waters as well !!

I hadn't fished them since the bash we had out there. Last fall I went out and busted the crappie. My side kick caught some YP off the pads by a gun club. I like them rivers. The rivers seam to be much cleaner than around me.(Moyock,Currituck). ALso much deeper than Northwest North River.
