Default BOTTOM RIGS for Yellow Perch

Does anyone ever just drift or pump along with a trolling motor useing a standard bottom and sinker (like the ones we use in saltwater for Croaker and Spot) for Yellow perch in the local tidal rivers and the NW river? Since the perch tend to hug the bottom seems like they would work using Minnows and bait.

I'm sure that would work if you used only one rod. I think if you put out multiples in rod holders you would stay hung all the time.

Chat me up when you get the chance. I can't find your number.

I use something similar but suspend it a foot or so above the bottom to keep from getting hung up.

I've caught them fishing for shellcracker using half a inflated nightcrawler on1/64th oz jig 12" or so of the bottom behind egg weight, the small hook buried in the crawler keeps from getting hung up. Are going to answer my question on the OT board now? Don't make me go Shoer on you!

I use this setup for both perch and crappie (when they go deep.) I start with inexpensive bottom rigs, but really only intend to use the wire setoffs and swivels. A pair of diagonals cuts the wire leader off & then I thread about 3' of 30# mono through one of the setoffs, tie a snap swivel on the bottom for sinker attachment, tie a swivel on the top to keep the rig from twisting my line, and then crimp a split shot (depth stop) beneath the setoff. The shot is well up from the sinker (and can be adjusted while fishing), allowing the hook to be anywhere up to 24" off the bottom. Each croaker rig produces two of my custom bottom rigs.

You are mean and hurt people's feelings. My Mom said I was good at fishing no matter what you say.

You could just tie a Kentucky lake rig and use loop knots with leaders about 6 inches long. They would stand out far enough to keep from tangling with light line. Just a couple loop knots up the main line and a bell sinker on the bottom. Same thing in theory as a salt water bottom rig without the hassle of buying/using the hardware. CF

Thanks for the info. I ask that question because my skiff has some rod holders but I am not set yet up for multiple rod techniques like spider rigging and such. Plus, I read where people use regular bottom rigs with bull minnows in the deep holes and bends in the tidal rivers. What I should have ask isWhat are some of yalls favorite techniques for yellow perch in the tidal rivers,Blackwater, Nottoway and the north west river?
