    Default Hey Cal

I'm new to the boards, but have been reading some of your posts. I am from down around Sumerduck area. Love to catch them specs when i can find the time.

I live here close by Curtis Lake but have never fished it for crappie... any good news you can pass along? How about Abel Lake? It would be close for me too, but have not fished it either. Plan to hit them both soon as I can slip off from everyday life. Just wondering if it's worth my time? I love to catch'm but I love to eat'm too and it just kills me to keep the little ones. Like to hit some good slabs close to home. Anything you could offer would be appreciated...

    thanks,
    FWL MOOD

Just do a general search of the VA forum using "Abel" as your search term & you should find reports on my 18 trips last year. This lake has a good population of medium-sized crappies (9" and over). Abel's long & narrow and DGIF isn't kidding when it advises fishermen to carry an extra battery. According to other regular Abel fishermen, Lake Curtis has larger crappies than Abel, but maybe not as many of them.
