    Default It's baaaaaack!

Hard to imagine that one storm could pump 5' of water into a lake with a minimal drainage basin, but Lake Abel's back to normal!

There's still a lot of trash & debris drifting around and the upper lake's fairly muddy, but this lake is back to normal operation.

Anchorman & I spent the day checking out old spots and exploring places that are suddenly more attractive with an extra 60" of water. Lots of laydowns, logs, and beaver huts that were high and dry a week ago are now submerged. The fish haven't settled down yet & the bite was weak. In all, we probably caught no more than 50 (12 keepers 10" to 11.5") specks, lots of little greenies, and this guy--a warmouth, I think.

If it was a warmouth, it's a big one (as these little fish go.)

No. I was there 10/15/08 & didn't get back until 6/30/09. At the time, I knew LA was good, but hadn't discovered the best part of it. When I caught a 14-incher 20 min. into the 6/30 trip and had dozens of nice ones for the day, LA moved way up my list.

The DGIF species description says that the warmouth "seldom gets larger than 8 or 9 inches." We didn't measure this one, but it was certainly in that range. I know they are lumped in with all the other "sunfish" & don't stand a chance of reaching citation size, but what's the largest warmouth anyone remembers catching?

Sounds good Corkarino. Did you take pics of all the structure while it was out of the water?

Default My Sunday plans were OBE . . .

    (Overcome By Events)!

I fully intended to try to launch my deep-vee into Lake Abel yesterday (Sunday), but it just was not to be!

Corker and Anchorman, I'm glad you guys got to go! Looks like y'all had a good day despite a weak bite! Based on the pics, I don't believe I will have any issues with launching my big boat. I'm gonna try again this coming weekend.

I'll post a report, if all goes according to plan!
