    Default 85 crappie-most were 7"-8"

Clear skies and a crisp 33 this morning at Western Branch. I spent all day fishing a super secret highly classified spot with the water depth in the 25' range. Early on I caught two that were just over 13" and weighed 1lb 5oz on sliding bobbers 10'-12' down. Started to cast a jig and caught 30-40 with a Bobby Garland Baby Shad black/pink on a 1/16oz plain jig head counted down for a count of 20. Later on I was vertical jigging a chartreuse wasshoppah tipped with a tiny minnow (my small minnows were really small) around 3' off the bottom-caught another 30-40 this way of which most were 7"-8". It was dink city. I probably had 5-7 that were 12" that I released as I only kept the three biggest for a meal.

Left my camera and cell phone at home so that's my only pic. Of the 85 crappie I caught I would bet that 50 of them were 7"-8". This colder weather had definitely improved the bite, now I just need the bigger crappie to get active. Crazy to catch so many dinks-I've never had a day like this at the Suffolk lakes. The small green carp were a nuisance and I caught 3 bluegill 20' deep-go figure.

Boy, that's certainly a different kind of day than WB's dealt out all year! It's good to see you bagged a few that are in your target size range, but where have all those little ones been hiding? What was the water temp?

Good report as always. Nice to hear they are starting to school up at that depth. You seem to always catch a few real nice ones. you've done your homework and the results show.

    Default Good Catch Tap

That's the Tap we are know. Nice fish Tap, if there are 13"ers there are bigger ones. It's just a matter of time. Glad you got a workout on the smalller ones. Maybe the tide is going to turn at WB.
