Default Travel Conditions Question

Any reason I should refrain from taking 664 thru the HRBT? I dont travel that stretch frequent enuf to know what it does in extreme conditions.
Does the HRBT ever get closed due to flooding? I dont wanna get caught on the other side with no way of returning. I need to go to Courtland, are there stretches of hwy 58 that go under water? I would be returning well before high tide this evening.
Thanks for any advice. I already checked VDOT site but dont trust them.

Jeff If I was you and heading from Toana to Courtland I'd come across the Monitor Merrmack Bridge. Go over to Benns Church and pick up Rt 10 west. Stay on the Rt. 10 by-pass around Smithfield and turn left onto Rt. 258. Stay on Rt. 258 all the way over to Franklin, Va then pick up Rt. 58. You will only be about 8 miles from Courtland when you get onto 58 outside of Franklin. All the above roads should be fine for travel. I still have those seeds for you in my truck.

Also, they have closed the JRB this morning. Said M&M is fine to cross and I heard something about HRBT, but didn't catch what was going on. I would do what Andy said and take M&M and his directions. It is nasty down here.

Crappie12, I hope our friend doesn't get lost or is driving around south side cursing me. I really got in my mine that it was the Monitor Merrmack that crossed over to the southside as Rt 17 and he would have been only a few miles from Benns Church on Rt 10. It wasn't until you posted about the JRB being closed that I realized it is the JRB that is Rt. 17 and comes onto the Southside near Smithfield. Hope Jeff makes the adjustment. All he needs to do is stay on 664 to Rt. 58 and head west. Oh well maybe he'll stop by and see ShellQuacker as he goes pass Holland.

I was wondering about that AC, when you posted that, I though hmmmm Benns Church from the M&M??? We'll he'll have a joy ride if nothing else! Glad I'm not the one who gave him those driving directions!

Must have been a bad reck on 258. I just got back from eating breakfeast at Main street Cafe right where rt10/rt258 intersect. Four ambulances. a fire truck and a rescue/pickup truck went by with sirens blareing.

Trip went well. I took 664 to 58 and only had any kind of delay for a few minutes comin back, 64/Ft Useless Blvd backed up a cpl miles. Water over secondary rds I took off 58 was deep but passable, however, a scant hr or so later on return the same places were marginally driveable and lotsa new places water was over the road.
Bay at HRBT.

I had an errand that had been on hold and admittedly I chose yesterday outta boredom some, but mostly for the adventure factor. I am going to
take myself out on a date later this morning for riverside tea & crumpets at Rockahock. Full report cometh.
