Default Combine Fire

Combine caught on fire this evening. I had just left hauling a load. Dad and Ricky were picking another load. Dad had one hopper full and smelled the smoke or saw it or something. Ricky said He could see smoldering fodder falling off the machine. Dad put a water extinguisher on it and used it up and then was able to get it to the shop for a good hose down. Bearing had gone out of an idler pulley and was throwing sparks that caught some bean dust on fire. It had got down on some pretty big hydraulic lines and had burned them a bit but had not burned through thank God. Should get back going again Monday but was a close call and no one got hurt! CF

Man you been havin a string of bad luck....you loose your rabbits foot or something?

Glad your OK. Dad had a close call a few years back in one of his older combines. He said he just felt a bug bite on his neck, smacked at it and didn't pay it no mind. A few minutes later his muscles start locking up on him. Luckily the local seed salesman was close bye to run him to the hospital. They were not sure if it was a spider or a caterpillar that got him but whatever it was he was highly allergic to it and it had him laid up in the motel for several days. He has had plots in NC for about 35 years now and never come across whatever it was before.

Glad it wasn't any worse & didn't end up like this silage cutter. This was a couple of months ago near where I live. Looked like a fairly new piece of equipment. It is still sitting there in the field.

Thought We had found the problem but its was not. Got Service Tech coming today to start hunting. They have seen this a lot and hopefully can put their finger on it quickly. Looks like that dang storm is gonna come up and put some heavy rain on us Wed. so got to make it count today If We can. Scorched some hydraulic lines to the back wheels that have to be replaced as well. Maybe be back together by early afternoon. If We can't find it, may have to find it the scary way. I hope not. CF

Good thing you were going over beans rather than corn cuz that may have been alot more of a fire.
