Angry lake smith crappie?

was driving past lake smith today and saw a couple of guys loading their boat and stopped to talk with them. and guess what 43 crappie all less them 10" yes I said 43 and they kept them all. I was glad to tell them about how high the mercury level is in that lake and showed them the sign about eating the fish out of there. their reply,So. I hope they don't get to sick but on the other hand, they did take a bunch of fish that should of grown for another year or two..Heck I didn't think there were crappie in there anyway

There's some big ones in there as well. I hadn't heard about the mercury level in that lake. I don't much care to fish there anyways. Everywhere you go you're practically in someones back yard. Too many houses along the shore line. I enjoy getting away from all that. So when you heading out?

I was there last week, my friend and his two young boys, age 6 and 9, anyway I noticed one lake front home was setting up a pool, looked very peaceful, I noticed the drain hose running toward the lake hmmmm ...sigh... once I retrieved the boat it had a ring dirtier than pongo or any lake that I had been in, I find it believable about the mercury level, even my bud said something when I mentioned it..... I had eaten some crappie from that lake a couple years ago, I will add be cautious....

The mercury warning is for Lake Whitehurst and the sign were just updated last month by the Health Dept and DGIF. The warning is only for carp and yellow perch.

As for the pool being set up, do you know where that occurred? We don't allow pools to be discharged into the lake and I like to let people know this is something we watch for.

If anyone sees anything on the Norfolk reservoirs that should come to my attention, please call me in the office at 441-5678 ext 253 or send an email to david.rosenthal@norfolk.gov. Anglers are the best inspectors I have and welcome your help in protecting the reservoirs.

We're happy to rat out anyone who's degrading our fishing holes and very happy that you plan to follow up with offenders. Don't be surprised if you get a GPS waypoint reference included with an email of that type.
