Default West Neck report

On the water at 6:20, off at 1:20. Caught 22 crappie 8" to 10", 2 at 12" and 15 gills, all released. Crappie caught on chartruse jigs with nibbles, gill on jigs with little mosquito fish. Not a bad day for the first trip since April.

Sounds like a decent day to me. Nothing wrong with a couple of 12"ers.

Good job Boscoe! How do you use those nibbles anyway, just mush them on the hook?

I take two or three and roll them up, put them on the hook between the twister tail and the jig head like a collar, or on a bucktail smash them around the threads and the base of the hair. They stay on better that way than putting them on the point. They stay on better if you let them dry out a little before you use them, I have a old jar that I dump some in with the lid off and let them dry till they get a little stiff. I use the sparkle ones in silver or chartruse.

I tried the sparkle ones but noticed I ended up with sparkles everywhere including my face. I read that when a crappie hits a minnow tiny scales are released, putting the crappie in a feeding frenzy, and that is exactly what the sparkle nibbles try to duplicate.
