I joined Billy at Pickett Res. for my 8th fishing trip in 9 days. Originally, I planned to stay home and relax, but minnows were left from yesterday, and then Billy PM'd me, and before I knew it the truck was headed for Blackstone.

The lake was at it's normal level, mid-50s, and dirty. Visibility ranged from 12" to maybe as much as 18". All the rain that's coming will turn this lake to the color of chocolate milk for at least a week.

Billy explored the upper lake/river and I visited the usual BPs and bubbler lines in the main lake.


It rained (quite a bit) while we were on the water & that improved the bite for me. No bigguns today, but I did have a busy afternoon--76 more entrants into the Nottoway relocation program. The white/black ratio has returned to roughly 3:1.

All but a couple were caught on MINNOWS. Jigs didn't interest the specks much today. Also happy to see MINNOWS were several kitties, and the usual assortment of greenies, bream, ringers, and a warmouth.

For the next few days I'm a fished-out fool. Like spawning season, when the weather's right and so is the bite, I fish as often as possible.

I guess my plans for Saturday are going to change, it will take a while for Pickett to clear up when this mess is over. Billy, was the river as muddy as the lake? Doesn't really matter what it was like today, will prolly be muddy Saturday from the mess that's happening now! May have to use tubes with Crappie Nibbles when the rain stops?

The upper end was pretty clear yesterday and a lot less leaves. It was kind of an exploratory day for me since I very seldom go above the bridge. What I did catch were more blacks and that is what Im looking for. Didnt get into the as many fish but didnt really stay in one spot very long since I wanted to get all the way to the back. I know where I will try next spring.

Yeah he smoked me. I didnt get anywhere near that number. Those MINNOWS did the trick. I didnt have any since the top broke off my bucket. Gotta get a new one and Ill be back in business. Billy

Take a look at this Coleman cooler. I've tried a lot of buckets to store, transport, and use minnows, and it's my favorite. It's well-built and stands up to lots of rough handling and hot/cold weather. The footprint isn't much bigger than any other type of minnow bucket, but its straight sides and added depth allow you to store the minnows in more water. More water means more O2 and longer intervals between water changes. Inside dimensions are sufficient to hold a 2 L plastic bottle full of ice to beat the summer heat. The cooler's insulation protects your minnows from temp extremes in winter as well as summer. Get (or make) a minnow net with a floating handle so you don't have to reach down into a foot of water to retrieve the net.

I seem to be worn out the next day whenever I go fishing. It would proably kill me to fish 8 out of 9 days. I guess that sounds like a pretty good way to go though. At least with the rain you can take a break for a few days.
