Hot on Rayburn
It was hot on Rayburn in more ways than one. My fishing partner and I went out early for a couple hours figuring to beat the heat. The wind cooperated and kept the pontoon positioned so we was in the shade with a nice breeze. We tried some different places his wife found on the map (won't listen to her anymore) with no luck. We came back to our holes and started getting bights. Several catfish later we decided someone had put a chum bucket in a perfectly good crappie hole, oh well. We moved to another hole and finally put a couple crappie in the livewell so things were looking up. Then a green carp turned me inside out, I was using a 9' crappie rod with a beetle spin, talk about excitement. He went back in with all the catfish. We moved to another hole and was getting bit so fast we couldn't get the second pole in. Don caught a slew of bluegill, I'm to slow and couldn't catch them. We were having so much fun wasteing bait that we let time get away from us, and the sun started getting to us. We fished for 5 hours and had two weeks worth of fun and went thru almost a pound of minnows. Now we are going to rest some. We were fishing from 11' to 25' of water and everything was close to the bottom. Next time out I think we will go deeper and see if we can find the real crappie. We were North of the 147 bridge and even North of the power lines. Maybe should have stayed below Jackson Hill or below the 147 bridge? We had fun anyway. Ferdi aka Fred:D

Great report and that's just what I was looking for. Got a trip planned for Rayburn with a couple friends in the Jasper area next month and we're planning on hitting Rayburn for crappie and catfish. They know a few good spots and I can think of a couple, but definitely will be up there on the water running just at breaking daylight.
Suppose to come in on a Friday evening and fish that night and the next morning early.
Fred - Let me if you hit it up before mid-late August.

post hurricane
Same thing here Fred, my wife and I were up there from last Wednesday thru Sunday, We really didn't get much fishing in until that friday night, I had brought 4 - 3 foot long green lights and dropped them in over some tops on the south end, The mayflies were terrible and just littered the top of the water, but the catfish were right under them just as thick feeding on them, so we shallowed our corks up to about 6 inches and went to wearing them out, My wife and I combined caught 36 catfish one being an 18 lb. opp. but we really had a blast, after the flies were gone, we settled into crappie fishing and fished for about 3 hours and ended up with 13 keepers but they really bit slow, Don't know if it was because the barometric was so low after the hurricane or what.
