Thread: Names of Crappie

Its funny how so many people call a crappie a slang name more than any other fish. Some according to reigon, state, etc... I know of many, but my favorite is checkerboard fish. What's yours.

Specks...or sometimes I name them individually...fred, pete, bob, gus.......

White perch...is what I grew up hearing for years.

I also grew up calling them White Perch in SE Texas, but over in Louisiana they call them Sacaliat.

my favorite is slab

I get a kick out of people calling them crappy.

Yep, crappy, white perch, minnow thief and where are those #$%@&*(^#$ perches!!

Man... you sound alot like my fishing partner.. Thats what he calls them.

Its amazing how crappie get called everything in the book! frome white perch to specks saccalait,  slabs,  mowhawks hybr, and even sausage head! ive heard em all. And yet theyre will be more to come.
