Default Memorial weekend report- Sam Rayburn

We fished Fri. thru Mon. We caught 121 keepers and threw back about 30. The fish were suspended at 10 to 15 ft. in 20 to 24 ft of water . If we got in deeper water we couldnt get a bite. Again we were hitting stick ups. As always we have our favorite stumps that were always good for 4 to 8 keepers. Then we would start stump jumping. Minnows were the bait of choice. The water was clear and the water temp run from 76 to 79. Bite was good 7:00 untill 10 or 11, then it slowed for us the rest of the day. A strange thing did happen, 2 of our favorite stumps got brushed by someone fri night. Sat. mourning we were getting hung up and bringing fresh willow leaves up. The problem with this is that we never caught another fish on those 2 stumps. What happen to the fish? We never saw anyone fishing them. Those stumps were always good for 3 or 4 keepers. Our own brush piles are in 27 ft of water. We still havent caught any fish on them. We built another brush pile mon. in 22 ft of water next to a stump that is always good for 6 or 7 keepers. Boy it takes a lot of weight to sink a 10 ft cypress. Anyway, we had a great weekend, hope everyone else did. Good luck to everyone.

rooter what part of the lake do you fish. I have only fished near twin dikes and was considering trying a different area of the lake, but didnt know how far the stumps are from where i go. I grew up stump jumping in oklahoma.

rooter, that happens all the time to me to. I've fished holes and baited them with an oldtimer sense moving here in 96 and I guess they are community holes. Give them two stumps a few days and the fish will be back on them, you'll have to find out what side and how deep till someone else refreshes the hole. I went out to refreshen some holes and set brush right on top of someone elses brush and if you fish deeper than 6' you will hang everytime. We used a half pound of minnows today and only brought back 7 keepers but caught lots of everything else and a mess of small crappie. We had fun though. Ferdi aka Fred

Hey agdave112, we fish the shirley creek area. There is an island called shirley creek island and we fish within a half mile radius of it. There are hundreds of acres of stumps in that area. Fish are pretty easy to find.

Fred, we are gonna hit those stumps again friday and i will let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the info.

Fished Saturday morning and Monday morning at Rayburn kept 113 keepers all caught on minnows and all about 11 ft. on tops in 20ft. of water, Caught 31 in about an hour and a half Monday morning by myself fishing with two poles, missed about ten and tried to horse one monster over the side and dropped him, this is why I fish for crappie, when the action is this intense you won't find anything better anywhere!
