    Default Martin Lake

Anyone ever fish Martin Lake. I am going camping there with friends in mid october. Is there good crappie fishing there? Any standing timber or brush? What about catfish?

Are you talking about Martin Creek lake near Tatum in East Texas? If so it has a mercury warning through TPWD if my memory serves me correct. Good lake for fishing but I would not eat anything from there.

Thats the one. They have a real nice park there and a bunch of couples from college are gonna meet up there. Figured I would take the boat for something to do during the day. Might be easier to just catfish. Wasn't planning on eating the fish from there because I heard the same thing.

It is a good cat and bass lake. A little low still per a buddy of mine. I haven't fished it in years. Placed second in a Bass tournament when I was 13 using Plum Sensation worms. I am 33 now. Oh the memories. The best bass fishing trip I ever had! There are stumps throughout the lake and lilly pads used to be in places. I assume there is still grass to fish. But, there is no telling now. It is a power plant lake. I assume you know that though! The Park area is real nice. You said something about old college friends were meeting up there?
Well, there is a rule about consuming alcohol at a state park I think. But, that may not even concern you

    Default Martin Creek Lake

I haven't fished this lake in years either, but back in the '80s we caught lots of crappie below the railroad bridge in the center of the lake.

I've hard the lake was stocked with carp to eliminate the Hydrilla, and they ate everything in sight and then overpopulated until they overtook the lake.

It was a nice lake with good lakeside facilities and good bass fishing back then.

We've all mellowed out, got married, and have youngun's. I expect it will be pretty mellow.
