Default New Lake- Lake Naconiche

To those who want a head start on a lake before it's filled, now would be a good time to take a four wheeler and a GPS to the site of Lake Naconiche 10 miles north of Nacogdoches, TX. It will be a small lake only around 700 acres but will be filled and stocked with fish hopefully very soon! The dam has just been completed and they're waiting for boat ramps to be built to start filling her up. I have a feeling that fishing is going to be great for at least a little while because of all of the natural vegetation that will be left to die underwater. Plus, how often do you get to explore the bottom of a lake?! Just thought I'd remind everyone because this little lake has been in planning for over 40 years and now it's finally becoming a reality!

Well it's been a pain to get it this far. Federal funding has been given then taken away then given back then taken away....then finally given back. They were talking about this lake when my dad was young if that gives you any idea of how hard it is to deal with politicians. It's finally time to bring home the pork!!

Well, they are missing a chance to catch some water today, Raining hard
here in Rusk, moving towards Nac.

Hopefully you will have a new fishing hole soon. Are there any stock ponds
in the lakebed ? you will want to mark those on gps, tank dams up on
fork are still producing good fish today.
I have not checked on Lake Columbia lately , they may be able to start
construction in the next couple of years.

good luck
MO

We absolutely got flooded this morning. My poor boat was full of water by the time I got up. They need to invent a plug that automatically removes itself when it senses rain!
No stock ponds that I know of. Its being fed by Tonkawa Creek which is spring fed, and that water is crystal clear and extremely cold.

Jacob--

Will the lake cover any springs ? If so I would mark those. If they still
flow after the lake is in, they will be fish magnets in the summer.

I'll have to check on that. I believe from what I've heard that the creek that is supposed to feed into the lake is spring fed and is supposed to have cold enough water to sustain a trout population even if only in a certain area of the lake. I'm planning on making another trip out there. I'll be sure to post some more info afterwards. Maybe I'll be nice and give some coordinates out via PM's to any crappie.com members!
