Default Sam Rayburn

Hi everyone. i am a newbie at this board. Great site. Lots of info. Rayburn is my home lake. We are there every weekend chasing those big slabs. I want to learn some new ways to catch those critters. We have brush piles which are not very active right now. the only way we are picking up few here and there is scanning stickups and stopping when we see fish. normaly get 2 or 3 when we stop, most are good fish. normaly the water is 20 feet , the fish are 10 to 12 . its a slow go, so i am intrested in the trolling . can anyone give me any tips for sam rayburn. thanks

Welcome Rooter, glad to have another brother Sam angler here. I do not get to fish Rayburn as much as I use to, or like to but I get there off and on. I hit some got White Perch a week ago on one of my brush piles. Like you said, 20' of water 10' deep. I think it is just this week because the fish are doing the same thing on Murvaul. I am catching one to three at each stickup, no concentration of fish at one spot.
Good fishing
Joe

Welcome aboard, Just like WhitePerchJerker I'm a Sam Rayburn faithful and the crappie have been in that same pattern for the last month and a half, we've been catching limits but not like we normally do. I think they will be better come June and July on tops 20 to 25 feet deep, thats my favorite crappie fishing time of the year. GOOD LUCK

welcome.gif From Toledo Bend Texas!

Hi neighbor, I live on Toledo Bend and is only about 25 miles between them. Use to fish Rayburn more than I do now, but with this lake right here and the boat hanging in the boat house it's too easy to just go down to that boat and lower it in the water and go.

It is a little late for long line trolling now, but you may still find some doing that around the Hydrilla in 6'-11' of water. Troll a 1/32 or 1/16 jig. One of my favorites is a 1/32oz Roadrunner with marabou tail.

This fall you can do the same thing just a touch deeper, like 12'-14' deep. If you check out my web site it has some god info on trolling as well as other ways to catch them crappie. Also links to other info.

I'm hearing good reports from south of 147 bridge but I usually fish north of the bridge. Not been doing to good so thinking about venturing south of the bridge myself and try to find some coves to get in out of the dang wind. We catch a meal for lite eaters so I ain't complaining. Good luck to you. Ferdi aka Fred
