talking to a fishing buddy about stocking douglas, to help bring back the douglas of old.talked to terry whaley he helped stock weiss for a number of years, now the state does it. 4 inch crappie are about 35 to 40 cents apiece, thats 40,000 bills for 100,000 fish, seems a fairly big hill but it could be done but it would take some enthusiasm ( looked that word up) from some people who would love to see it happen, get the limit back to 60.I realize like everyone else the water level is a problem, money is tight. anyone got thoughts, like maybe someone has a decent pond we could raise our own![]()
Send a letter to Obama, he can tack that on to the Stimulus package:D
I read on TWRA's web site that they raised and released some crappie that they raised in a pond on Henderson Island about 6 years ago. I wish they could get Douglas back to the Douglas of old.
Obama if you have spies reading this site we could use some help, and I'll take you fishing.we'll cook up our catch throw on some hushpuppies and you'll see how important this is,A small gov. donation of 40,000 each year or better yet a place to raise our own.
yaw check out corker a guy here in virginia he puts em over the dam into the river about a hundred everytime he goes fishn trying to thin the lake of the small ones and it is perfectly legal..crappie with right spawning conditions will overpopulate my thinking is you fellas build some artificial structures for them and let the egg bearing fish go for a year or so and bam all you want.......![]()
I heard Douglas hasn't had a good spawn in 3 years. If so, stocking may help.
Douglas has not had a spawn in the last three years, but TWRA, for the past several years, has raised and released Crappie in Douglas at the Hatchery and in the large pond on Henderson Island. In the pond on Henderson Island they put 100 large femals and 100 large males each spring and let them spawn and in the fall flush them out into Douglas. They have no way of telling how many but several thousand. Plus they have release several thousand from the Hatchery. It takes a Crappie from the time it is born 4 years to reach 10 inch size limit. Did you all every think in the spring when you catch a limit and some of the femals have eggs running out of them of turning them lose and going for a few more males. Fishing is fun and catching one is a bonus and fifteen Crappie is enough for any family, with the pressure that's on this lake now and it is not going to get any less, we will be lucky to maintain the Fifteen limit, in the near future TWRA may want to look at a ten limit.
Thanks for the info Sandyridge. I'm sure TWRA will do what is necessary to maintain and grow the crappie fishery which in turn will be good for the fish and fisherman.

are we crying about the crappie in douglas, we are the same people that would not fish a 7 fish limt tour- because they wanted to keep 15 - face it people douglas is dead.
