To look forward to
My boat motor has been running like crap all summer we changed everything on it trying to solve the problem no luck last night we decided to look a little deeper ethanol has eat up every rubber gasket that gas comes in contact with
here is a couple pics of the reed gaskets if you havent had no problems yet more than likely you will

Dang Sink...that is not good news. How old is your powerplant? Is there anything that can be done to slow down that process?

Thats not good news at all!! Do you think adding the water seperator filter will delay this at all?
Surely they can come up with a gasket/ sealer that is impervious to ethanol.
The Hound
it is a 93 model motor so far they dont have a cure for it
my buddy is a boat motor mechanic says they are seeing on new stuff as well as old stuff
oldwun i doubt the water seperator will help any
I have a neighbor who sells and services Stihl and Husky chain saws plus a bunch of commercial lawn mowers. He says the new gas is causing them all kinds of problem. Carburetors are the main one. The manufactures have not found a solution as of yet.
I used to see one of the big name gas stations that sold Premium gas without ethenol in it, I think it was Amoco. But I have paid any attention of late, maybe they still sell that, but then I would think it would be as pricey as marina gas pump, but it might be worth it to keep damage like that from happening. Guess I might ought to look into it for my Suzi. Its an 87 150SS, and I've been putting all the E85 gas in all this year. Probably be in same "boat" soon if I don't add somethng to help out. I heard Stabil has a new updated version thats supposed to combat the ethenol in gas.
I stopped by Mikes Outboard repair here in Madisonville this morning. I ask Mike about the Ethanol gas and the problems. He took about a cup of gas and mixed it with a 1/4 cup of water and told me to stop by tomorrow. He then showed me a fruit jar that had been sitting for a while. The bottom of the jar had water the middle portion was kinda light milky colored and was the Ethanol and the upper portion was gas. He says the newer motors have a different gasket material but they can still have that problem Once the fuel separates it will not mix back. The water separator traps the water because it is heavier. So even with the separator you have to check for water every once in a while. The manufactures say the 2 strokes will have the most trouble. One of their recommendations is that if you use your motor a lot it is OK to keep the tank full. If you do not use it a lot keep fresh gas in the tank.
Picked up a bottle of Star Tron ( by Star-bright) the other day. A fairly new product it is supposed to prevent and reverse ethanol enhanced products. Verdict is still out since I have only recently added it to my tank. Boat mechanic swears by the stuff. We'll see.
Anyone heard of or used this product before?
You can't finish what you don't start
Thank's for the info fella's !!
As you know i have been having probs. with my motor and would hate to here its the gasketts! Or something of the same! Did what down wind said, new gas tank fresh gas and new water pump( which in my engine is just a piece of rubber).. But the bill was not realy cheap for all that! I will continue to use the sea foam and do fish alot in the winter, and continue to follow this thread! Thanks guys! RFY
