    Default River Cane / Bambo

I'm looking for some cane to make some crappie poles. Would like some to be 14 foot are better so I can trim it back to 12 foot for strength, it also needs to be about 1 1/2 inches at the base.
I live at Reelfoot, if anyone knows of some close by please let know. I'm gonna ride around some tomorrow and look.

    Gary,

There is some I know of down here, and there is a guy on cragslist in Memphis that is getting rid of a whole bunch of bamboo. If i can make it down there I will save some of it for you. If not I will try and get some of the local stuff here for you to use.

    Default Cane

Justin, That's great, I need maybe 10 to have some for spare's. I think if I cude them right, and put some lenseed oil or something like that on them to help preserve them they will work.
    Thanks Justin.........Gary

When we cut our cane we take it and hang them from a tall tree and tie a weight on the bottom and let them cure for a couple of months. We have done this since I was a kid and have never had a problem.

When I was a kid there was on old guy that made his own poles and sold some too. He would get his cane, strip the leaves off and tie the tip end up in his barn. I don't remember him using a weight, but that sounds like a good idea. He would leave them hanging for 3 to 6 months then scrape and sand the rough spots, varnish them and hang them up again for a few weeks. He would then tie on the eyes and reel seat. Used them for river fishing mostly.

When I was a kid my grandfather would tie his in a tall tree ,and tie a concrete block to the big end and let hang for a couple months. He also striped the leaves before drying.Boy this brings back some memories.
