saturday, last time
Just left a quick message on the 11th about my fishing trip. More details. I got up saturday morning with my wife, she was going to deer hunt. She was pretty excited. Last year she could not hunt cause she was about to explode with our third (and final) child, my little slab, Jack. The kids spent the night with grandparents so she could hunt and I could fish. (she really wanted me to watch the kids to "show" me how hard she works and what she has to do. Believe me, I know that I am glad she is the mom and I am the dad!!!) Her idea of early isn't that early. She also has this irrational fear of mountain lions hanging from a branch over the trail behind our house on the 250 yard walk in the pre-dawn darkness to her 16' eight by eight covered house of death that she hunts from. I say irrational since I have never seen a mountain lion here and she carries a .444 rifle. I guess all those times that I told her about local sightings finally took their toll on her.
Anyway, about 10 minutes after daylight, I hooked up the boat and gave her a ride down the driveway to where she walks to the stand.
I got to the lake (Bluebank ramp) around 7, I guess and the wind out of the east was a tad harder than forecasted. I went on over to the leaning tree in caney pocket just north of green island point and started fishing in the 11-12 foot water. I wanted to get in the 9-10 foot water, but all of the blinds on that shore had hunters and I try to not offend them. I kept 14 good fish. Fished until about 10 and went home to help the lovely bride. (by the way, she called at 9 when she got down from the stand and felt like that would be a good time for me to come home and do a little fall cleaning!) Oh well it was a great morning. The fish that I caught were from 6-10 feet deep with the biggest fish being 10 foot deep.
Saturday before last, crappiecrider (new forum member) and I fished the 10 foot water out from Kiwanis park and we got there before daylight. We rigged up in the dark shallow with a flashlight. We caught fish real shallow and quickly moved our slip bobbers up to 1 foot about the first hook and caught a large number of fish early in 1-3 feet of water. We fished until 1:00 p.m. and caught almost a twoman limit. After about 8:30, we moved on down to 4-7 feet deep.
I am desperate to escape from the office sometime later this week. I know that I will be out of town for a few days this weekend and the first of the week so I am hoping to get in one good morning or afternoon before I leave saturday. It does not look good though as my lovely bride is heavily armed, trigger happy, and in search of a deer. She loves to leave me with Jack (10 months old) with a great big poopy diaper. Oh well.
Has anyone heard anything from the north end? You should be able to go up and hit the basin line from Curlin's blind to Carter's blind from 4 o'clock to dark and pick up some good fish. I started up there last year a few times in the afternoon in late november. I like that shallow water best. I can put my boat in 11.8 miles from the back door of my office and be fishing in a hurry. Last year we caught more big fish and fewer small fish than ever.
Good Luck to all.

oh yeah, I forgot
I also slipped in in the windstorm on last tuesday. We closed the office at lunch for election day and my pastor and I ran down to Tiptonville. It was a hard north wind, but we got in behind the gazebo. Caught a fine drum right off the bat followed by a 3.4 inch crappie. Nothing else until about 30 minutes before dark then we caught 15 or so pretty good fish about 3 foot deep in 20 minutes.

Rush - good report. Funny wife story too. Glad my wife doesn't deer hunt. She doesn't fish either. I used to wish she would do both, but over the years I have come to appreciate the fact that she won't go. But she loves to try to stop me. I too have a little one at home. I'm 43 and have a two year old son. She tries to strap me with him all the time as well (little does she know I like it). Always accompanied with the "now you'll see how hard my job is". Now I'll admit I'm not much in the way of patience or baby watchin'. And I greatly appreciate my wife and her ability to take care of the munchkin'. But I sometimes step over the line (stupid I know - after 22 years you think I would have learned to keep my yap shut) and ask her if she can build a house, design and build a power transfomer, change an upper ball joint on the van, replace the calipers on the car, build a new bathroom - plumb it - wire - and lay down tile, install a sprinkler system, build a motorcycle from scratch, grill a perfect steak, airate the yard, start the mower, open a jar, sit through and understand an entire football, basketball or baseball game, sometimes in the same day (ESPN Classic + TVO), make your own beer or wine from scratch, clean a gun, shoot a gun, take out the garbage or push the big ass can to the cirb, shovel the driveway, kill a spider, unclog a toilet or sink, do math homework, make a solar system out of styrofoam balls and cardboard, explain hair under your 13 year olds armpits, explain girls to 13 year old son, drive 1,000 miles in a single day to make sure we get to Disney Land on time, pay for Disney Land, pay for new house, pay for food, pay for cars, vans, motorcycles and boats, pay for hair coloring, beauty shop stuff, hair care products, skin care products, manacures, petacures and massages - like I said she don't fish or hunt... Oh and can she work 60 hours a week at "that job" while doing all this other stuff too? Man honey - you got it rough - A poopy diaper and playing with Thomas The Tank Engine and watching Elmo and Barney for a few hours - YOU BET I'LL DO IT. Now tomorrow you get to do my job, if you can
