Speck - what about Douglas or Cherokee this Saturday. I do not have a partner for a float trip this weekend so I would like to catch some crappies if possible. I'll bring the food!

An old buddy called and said he wants to catch some small mouth this Saturday. He had been watching my web site and saw the pictures I posted. So if the weather holds I'll probably take him on the Holston. How does the following Saturday or Sunday look for you on Cherokee?

Call me and we'll set it up. Saw some nice new for 2008 B n M Crappie tightlining rods at Dick's Sporting Goods today. The new store in Johnson City has an impressive fishing department. If you have a need for some fairly decent "cheap" rods, they had Shakespear medium action spinning combo's for 9.99 marked down from 29.99. Had a whole basket of them. Good stuff for kids! They have a great selection of crankbaits and plastics too. Prices on fishing line, hooks and weights seemed to be cheaper than Wal Mart. We'll see if it stays that way... I'll post pics from my small mouth trip this weekend.

This is when the big ones come out to play man. Sorry but I must oblige them. I saw three or four that would have topped the ones I caught last week. Problem is they saw me too. That's the problem with fishing in super clear water. If you make a sound or they spot you, they spook and they are gone like a flash. The carp scare them too. Some in there pushing fifty pounds man, huge! If you scare them, they go nuts and ruin everything. Luckily the float boats are real quite and you can generally sneak right up on them, see them sometimes, and put that finesse worm right in front of 'em - slurp - yank - hang on! It's a blast man. I'm taking the digital scale to see if I can get a ligit 6 lber before the water gets too damn cold. I'm using 12lb Fireline (small diameter) and they still break it sometimes.
