My number one crappie student and I had a spur of the moment decision to try to beat the rain and storms this morning. We launched in the dry, but it was raining before we reached our first dock. It soon became a monsoon and high winds so that it was very difficult to stay on this particular dock. We moved around to another area that was a little bit better as far as the wind was concerned, but only had a couple of crappie before we decided to try one more place.
I need a new rainsuit. By the time that we finished under that dock, I was soaked to the bone as if I didn't even have a rainsuit on. Grin. But in the 1.5 hours that we fished, we landed 12 keepers that went home with me. When we heard the first thunder roll, we quickly sped back to the ramp and put the boat on the trailer. After getting in the truck, we learned that a tornado had touched down in N Georgia. We were about 20 miles above the Georgia line and were still under a tornado watch. We made a good decision to quit.
Gumdrop slab slayers on a 1/24 oz jig head was the ticket today. We didn't catch a fish on any other color. Water temp was 71.6 and we were not in the main river channel. We were in sloughs fishing docks. I do love short productive trips even if I do get wet. It is nearing summer and I have been wet before. LOL
The Northern end of the Chick looks like chocolate milk after all the rain this morning. Thanks for the report. I am hoping to get the kayak rigged out and go chase a few soon.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
