What a morning at Watts Bar dam that Dr Phillip Gawthrop and I had. He only wanted to keep about 10 white bass, but wanted to concentrate on Stripers. There wasn't too many other boats up there, only about 3-4 that were fishing near the only turbine that TVA was running. We finally hit on the proper presentation and it was game on from that point.
Using 1/4 oz jigs that I pour up and powder paint, we attached a salt water lure from Bass Assassins that was around 3" long and was in the green moon color. The fish ate them up like candy. Grin.
We quickly limited out (4 fish) with my biggest at 28 lbs 8 ozs and 40" long which makes it a TARP Striped Bass, my 11th such different species. Phil's best was only 24 lbs. I need to give him a little more instruction. LOL
I had 5 more huge stripers on, 3 of which pulled off after a 10 minute fight and us following them with the big motor. The other 2 simply broke my line after a 10-12 minute fight. Phil had one or two big ones pull off after a 5-10 minute fight. Don't know why they were pulling off, but they just did.
We kept 11 white bass for Phil's dinner table. He also caught my pet Drum. He is trying to take my title of Drumking. Grin.
