Default Down Deep in December (12-17-14)

Put some time in slowly cruising around and watching the humminbird screen. I found three new deep water prospects I felt they were worth a waypoint.
I caught fish off of all three locations. 10 nice keepers and 5 shorts. Fish were caught from 24 to 30 ft deep verticle jigging a 1/4 oz watzit jig tipped with a crappie nibble. The fish coming up out of 30 ft of water did not survive so I am glad they were keeper size and could be brought home to eat.

Good info. Did you stay with 4 lb. test line fishing that deep? Thanks for sharing the pictures. Always enjoy your reports and pics.

I usually do my verticle jigging with a 8ft BnM float and fly rod topped off with 6lb line.

Good job. I fished 32' most of today til they got finicky, then went to 40. Still caught fish. Love the thump with the bigger jigs. 10/2 braid for me.
When you try to release them from down deep, try dropping them head first from about 4 or 5 feet up so they move a lot when they hit the water. We released all but one of the 11 we had today, and a Great Blue Heron got to him before we did.
