Default Recommendations for fishfinder and GPS

I would appreciate any help in selecting a fishfinder and GPS. I am thinking of spending some extra $ and buy a better unit. I might settle for just the fishfinder, but I would also like to think about a unit that includes GPS and navigation. Hopefully I could stay in the $400 range. Anyone with experience with a Hummingbird 383C. Is it really worth the money for a better unit. Thanks Catchum

I am not familiar with Hummingbird. From what I have heard, the Lowrance 332 is a good unit with gps. The gps is very worth the money. For ex: I went night fishing by myself the other night, kinda got turned around backwards so I just back tracked from my gps trail to find the ramp. I have the LCX25c, its a really nice unit but expensive. Im sure the 332 is as nice, I just wanted the 7" screen.
Call Clint and Cindy at Three Rivers, they have the lowest prices any where. Call them for the lowest price, their website prices are higher than their actual prices. They have great customer service as well.

Charger440spd: Thanks very much for the information. I definetly will check the information out. I am having a tough time deciding to spend the money for a better fishfinder. Evidently it is worth it to locate the fish. Chatchum

I have a Lowrance 480 and I wouldn't settle for anything less. Great detail. It is one of those products that out performs my ability to use it!

volfan: Thanks for the information. I am still trying to decide on a good fishfinder/GPS unit. Or maybe just get a better fishfinder. I was thinking of going without color, apparantly it works okay for you. Thanks for your help..catchum

The lowrance 332c, for the money is the best thing going. I crappie fish in a Ranger and I only run Lowrance equip. I run 2 sonar/gps units plus 1 other gps unit. You want to get the most pixels available example 480V-480H. Power isn't as important unless you are fishing in depths such as the ocean. Don't pay for a dual frequency unit either.

Possumcop: Thank you for the information. I am still searching for what to buy. I was wondering about the dual frequency, it sounded like it might be a good idea, but I think I will forget about it now.

quackermasher: Thanks for the reply and suggestion. The 640v x 480h provides good detail for the money. Sounds like people who buy a good unit are well pleased. I have two cheaper eagle units, no color, and plan to upgrade ....hoping this will help me catch some fish. Thanks again
