Pickwick dead??
Wondering if anyone else thinks Pickwick is dead or the lower part around Tn, Ms and Tn state lines. Yellow creek.
Monday was a first for me. Stopped to get minnows and even the bait shop was talking about no crappie. You know its bad when a bait shop states the fishing sucks.
I for one wonder if its the lake water clearing up ? And the fish changing habits? Like more black crappie and everyone being used to fishing for white crappie?
AS theres no way its fished out, Or is it?
What is everyones thoughts on this?

Pickwick Dead?
Shilohred: I could not have said it better myself. I fished pretty hard during the "season" and only had one banner day (30), and the remaining days were stinkers. Others I have talked to said it has been a bad year. I quit crappie for awhile but I am thinking of giving it another try. I am thinking of going deeper (15'/20') in 30' plus feet of water with jigs tipped with minnow. I might even troll with 300 bandits. No doubt the fishing has changed. May we all have better luck!!!!!!!! correction...it is not luck its "skill".

Go to the Kentucky board and go to the thread about "cranks." Scroll down to crappiepappy's post where he gives a website for a study done on Kentucky Lake. I think this study gives some credibility to what Red is saying about more black crappie in the lake and people not adjusting to there unique habits as they are used to fishing for white crappie. Here is an excerpt from that study.Kentucky Lake has abundant crappie. However, over the past few years, changes in lake conditions mean black crappie are now more predominant than white crappie. Black crappie have slightly different behavior and habitat preferences than white crappie. Fishing success on the lake has dropped somewhat because of a lack of angler knowledge about the preferences of black crappie.

I will try them again in about a week and a half. But will go back to spider rigging and see what I can find.
And Ken I read that study but had forgotten about it.
I may have to do a search on catching black crappie and give them a try.
catchum we may have to meet up at the state line and give them a try when I get back from IA.
That Or I think I may give Bear creek a try.,

Pickwick / Bear Creek Crappie
I've fished the Bear Creek area of Pickwick quite a bit in the Spring for crappie but became convinced that the crappie move out of Bear Creek in summertime when water gets hot.
Do you guys catch crappie in Bear Creek in Summer? If so, how deep?
Would appreciate some information since I love to fish Bear Creek area of Pickwick but I stay away during the hot summer months.
Thanks..Dan
