I haven't been bluegill fishing yet, but we caught several last weekend on crappie jigs. They ought to be heating up.
Has anybody been doing any bluegill fishing yet?

We tried them shallow Thrusday. Only got one good one. We did catch a good number of small bluegills and shellcrackers. About 10 days or so till the full moon. It should be ready then.
I tried a good bream pond for coppernose bluegills the other day. Got a dozen or so small largemouth up to 12" and one bluegill and one big green sunfish on a 1-1/2" Teeny Torpedo. This was in about an hour and a half. No bass or bream on the nest yet but it won't be long.
We have been pushing the season. think about were they bed, and then back off, and start finding the stageing areas. They are prob. there as we speak. Then try diffrnt. baits to cover water. And you will prob. find that you will catch them all in a SPOT! and they are spottey until they make it on to there bed GOOD Luck Just my oppinoin

this cool weather will slow them down alittle bit. fished a known bed sat afternoon and didn't catch many at all. moved out to the point of the cove and caught several. none really much size but fun non the least.
I tried the nextdoor neighbor's pond first time this year a couple of hours and got 2 female bluegills about 7-8"" and a couple smaller along with 4 bass from 10" to 12". Something down there has hatched already, I saw a few tiny fish about 1/2" long, they looked more like bream fry than bass but I saw no evidence of nests. Might just be leftover mosquito fish. That pond is 3/4 acre and 18' deep but not very productive. It's still fun catching small fish on a 4-1/2' ultralight rig w/2 lb test and a 1/32 oz marabou jig. They were feeding on some type of insect but I didn't take a fly rod or spinning bubble with poppers. Might try it again with a 1" Teeny Torpedo if I have time tomorrow.
