Default Pulling Crank Baits

Tried pulling crank baits for crappie the first time yesterday, I fished near Birdsong on Kentucky Lake. After a full day of fishing in water 12'-20' I had caught a little bit of everything except crappie. The highlight of the day was a 5 lb. Largemouth that was talented enough to tangle all four lines I was pulling.
Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try? I have never fished much during the summer months before but the older I get the more I realize you can't always wait for the perfect time of year to fish.

Jighead1,
What are you pulling, and what are you pulling with?

Catching a little bit of everything and a bonus fish is normal. Wait til you get a big ol' cat.

It's a good way for us old folks to fish and eat at the same time and have fun.

You have a PM--------MT

Bandit 300 Series Crank Baits, different colors. I enginered my rod holders to pull four rods off the back of my Bass Tracker. I used the motor at idle speed and seemed to be pretty much ok.
I first witnessed this method at Sardis Lake in Mississippi, My father knows a gentleman that retired and moved down there and he swears by this method. He catches more crappie in the summer than in the spring.

jighead1 I use my trolling motor and a gps to keep the wright speed . sometimes just 1/10 of a mph can make a big deal. I use the 200 and 300 but latley the wally marshel have been the best. I have been going 1.7 mph and have been doing good . bay springs is where i do this. dont give up on it this works. just keep trying. you might want to try your trolling motor. just try alot of stuff not just crankbaits ,jig, minnow too . If your ever down this way give me a shout and we will go trolling. I think I like this time better than the spring time fishing

Thanks for the info, I am going to try it again tomorrow. I have heard of Bay Springs, is it close to Sardis?

You might want to try to find somekind of ledge, seen like i have a lot more luck catching crappie if I can pull my baits up an ledge or arcoss a ledge,in other words I may be pulling in 20 to 30 ft and then it will run up to about anywhere from 12 to 18 ft when those baits comes arcoss that most of the time I will pick up one or two, then I just make a wide turn and cross it agian,I have a lot of ledge mark on my gps so i just troll from one to the other, also I'm pulling bandit 300 with four rods out the back, and troll with my tm @ 1.7 to 2.0. may be this will help some.
