Question Prop

Been awhile since I have posted anything I hope everyone is doing good and staying cool as possible.LOL I bought a new prop for my 40hp johnson my old one was slipping. I ordered one from reelfoot marine, and the one the sold me was a different pitch and my motor has a bad vibration. I can't take it back because I have used it. I guess I shoud have looked at the pitch on the new one before I put it on. I'm looking at a stainless prop but I'm worried about it in reelfoot with all the stumps, I have always used alum. props because when you hit a stump it will break off and will not break your lower unit. I'm Thinking right about that. I guess what I'm asking is what is everyone else using. Thanks for any help. I'll be glad when the fall gets here so we can get back out there after them slabs.

I use a stainless steel prop on my 90hp Yamaha and never had any problems at Reelfoot. Also you can get that old prop rehubbed if it is slipping. That happeded to me a couple years ago while duck hunting with my jon boat and 25hp Mercury stainless steel prop.

I didn't realize that pitch could cause a vibration. I have had a vibration but it usually meant the prop was out of rounds, bent or missing a chunk of blade on one end or something. I think I would try and take it back....

I have a stainless that I bought from eaglenest marine that I run on a 40 Yamaha, I do go slow in Reelfoot due to stumps, the ones that I have hit going slow haven't damaged anything. Well worth the investment.

I had never seen a prop do this before, but after I put it on and tried it out the vibration is there. I can put my old one on and there is no vibration just slipping at top end speed. I'm going to give them a call and see if they will do anything on it. Thanks

I would rather run Alum prop over SS just my personal preference tho a new prop is alot cheaper than a new or rebuilt lower unit and labor charges.
