hey westenncrappie,

I have a 73' 14 ft monark flatbottom john. Its got a 25 johnson, but I wonder if its short or long shaft. I want a 40 hp tiller. Whatever fits on my johnB. My johnson lets me down a lot and two people and boat loaded is slow. What brand are these and how used r they. I need one bad but gotta budget too.

What's it rated for ? Man a 25 hp sounds about the limit for a 14'.

I just went out and checked it. I think its a long shaft thats on it. Measured about 20 in from cavitation plate. I measured the transom and it was 15 in tho. So still not too sure. I looked at that link and used that as reference. As far as the 25 vs. the 40, the boat is rated for 40 hp. Its a deep and very wide johnboat. Plus Ive basically got it loaded down and rigged up similar to a small bass tracker aluminum boat. Its all carpeted, has floors made/w marine plywood and all kinds of little storage boxes so I can hide batteries and livewell etc. Actually with two people its slow. With one person the 25 does ok(prob runs about 25 mph give or take). Really wanting the 40 so when two people are in the boat and Im headed UP river on the OHio or Licking against the current, I dont want it to feel like Im setting still......
