Went down to check out the boat this morning and discovered 5 live minnows in the cooler. I took off across the lake to my favorite laydown to see if I could turn 5 minnows into 5 crappies. I marked a bunch of big fish next to the tree top. Got anchored about 40 feet away and sent a minnow under a slip bobber in the area of the tree top. Didn't take long to get a bite. Took even less time to get wrapped around a limb and broke off.
Sent the next minnow over to the same spot and rigged minnow #3 under a slip bobber and sent it over near the bank next to a downed tree. Soon minnow #2 got bit and as soon as I set the hook I could tell it was a heavy fish. It fought pretty hard and at first I thought it was a thug but after a while I could tell it wasn't. As I brought the fish in it made a couple runs and got caught up with the line going to minnow #3.
Finally got it to the boat--all along hoping it was a crappie but it turned out to be a green carp. No scales on the boat but it measured 20" and looked to be over 5 lbs. All the messing with the line caused minnow #3 to get caught in a submerged branch and broke off. I decided to put minnow #4 up near the bank too. He's still there dangling from a tree branch on shore.
The wind changed direction so I picked up and minnow #5 is still in the cooler. I'll toss him off the dock tonight.

One taste of the bait
is worth the pain of the hook

Not bad--out of 4 minnows you caught 3 limbs and one fish. That's a good day :D:D

Kunes, it AINT GOOD to have minners left over...especially ONE! Shoulda just throwed that one in a limb too.:D:D
25 percent ratio isn't that bad
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
i can remember many a time running out and looking around the boat for ones we may have dropped or using the dead ones when the bite was hot. wed start with a full bucket tho...:D
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
