Hit the lake at 5 pm and set up for spider riggin. Fished in 15 to 20' depth with the minnows 8 to 10' deep. Caught 8 before dark, so got set up for the nightstalk and fished until 11 pm. All I can say is where is the crappie ? Caught 2 crappie for the nightstalk. Not sure what the crappie are doing, didn't mark any holding no where. Total catch was 10 crappie--3 green carp--1 white perch. The water temp is 56 on the main lake and found some at 64 in the back of coves. Sure was a nice day, not much wind and not many boats on the lake.

It appears the crappie have taken a vacation for a while. May be the moon and may not. You did better than I dai. I was out on Sat and didn't show any on my graph either. Saw a lot of dead bait floating and gulls were haveing a field day. Lots of boat but no one catching, just fishing. BUt like you don't know where they are at. Am going to try again this week and hope it will be better.
Ronnie,
You're startin' to make me nervous! We have a crappiefest coming and I sure don't want to have to go to the supermarket and buy some Gorton Frozen Fishstix!!!:D
I think (I hope) that a variety of factors including the cold snow melt, the rapid rise in water level, the full moon, etc etc (we fishermen always have excuses) are combining to make things tough for everyone. I do believe that when the Russell crappie turn on, they will do so in big numbers and we'll see some beautiful slabs. And I hope that this will happen sooner rather than later!

It's just a matter of time!!! The lake is up over most of the trees tops now. Just have to change the way we have been fishing to find the crappie.

Hope this front coming in will turn them on,we gonna fish tomorrow an thursday and maybe friday if it dont rain.Sure am glad time changed gives us a little more time after work. good luck all
Wow, pintail that does sounds like a tough time on Russell! I know you are a good fisherman and know the lake. I remember your big catch on Pistol and Newford awhile back, and now you've posted a tough time on Clarks Hill and on Russell. Looking back through my fishing logs, it seems that, with few exceptions, that the first week, or even two, of March can be incredibly tough. The fish have left their winter holes and aren't yet in the spring areas. I always say that the crappie fishermen get ready about a week or two earlier than the crappie themselves do! :D
Everybody hang in there....another week or two and we'll all be posting good reports!

They will be ready by the 21th. I'm going the first part of the week and talk to the crappie--that's right--I'm a crappie talker!!:D:D and I believe most fisherman are to. So don't worry about the fish biting come the 21th, with all the crappie talkers that will be there at one time the fish will be willing to jump into the boats :D
:D
