Well when I tightline or drift all I ever use are minnows cause they don't come in but one color if you know what I mean. I hear guys talk about how the fish at one point in the day were hitting jigs and not their minnows, but then they'll catch on the minnows too. I guess you couldn't really go wrong tipping your jigs.

On a strickly jig perspective I like using a black and chartreuse and a john deere green chartreuse jig. That's what I've had most of my luck on. The only time I ever use em though is casting the banks, points, or mouths of coves with an ultra-light. Fishing with jigs can be tricky cause colors can change quick. I've heard a lot of people tell me this year they catch em on pink jigs. Trial and error is about the best advice I can give you though cause I'm a minnow man too!

    Good luck with em!

Pink/yellow or green chartreuse seems to be a "hot" color now on the jig tying forum. I have to admit, I myself have even fallen victim to tying alot of them. Makes me wonder who can talk to fish to find out what they are gonna want "this year". Personally I think that it is just something new to (excuse the pun) "catch" your eye.

I am just about strictly a jig fisherman(who carries minnow just in case) and I use mostly one type of jig. I use charlie brewers sliders on a variety of heads. And my favorite colors are black and chartruese and john deere green. Recently I've had a little luck with white grubs with blue tails. I use flueger presidente reels on 7 ft rods, generally throwing over brush or at the bank depending on where I find the fish. I have tried tippin my jigs with minnows and never really seen much difference in my catches. Go with whatever tactics your comfortable with and leave a few for the rest of us!

I have not used a minnow in years. black /chrt. blue/chrt are my most productive colors. vary your jig head sizes and depths till you locate the fish.

When you tie the Jig USE A LOOP KNOTT. It gives the jig the best action.

The most fun I have is vertical jigging in the brush and work them out of the brush.
