Since you guys are the OFFICIAL nightstalking champs, I could use some advice. I'm going to nightstalk Clarks Hill this weekend. I have only tried this 3 times and each time was unsuccesfull. I could really use some advice here. I plan on starting at about 4pm Sat. and finishing around 10am Sun. Probably somewhere between Fishing Creek and Soap Creek.
To heck with work, lets go fishing.
hey score 300 this is bowlerman ,go to the main page and read the article that rango wrote, it will set you on your way, i look for channels near flats anywhere between 35' and 10' it just seems if you can find that different depth water near a flat the bait will be there, i personely ride around using my depth finder tilll i mark bait balls and then i ride around looking for fish in the area, dont jump on the first pile of bait you see look for a pattern if all the bait you mark is at 15-20' then concentrate on those depths because it aint no coincidence that they are there, and if they are there then the fish will be in that same depth range, anchor down and give it a try. i like alot of others dont like to move once anchored put if i dont see some kind of activity after about a hour or so i will make a drastic depth change, i have moved from 28' water where i marked tons of bait and not see any bait in the area after dark move to 18' water and not be able to keep a line in the water, dont be afraid to try things that dont make since i have caught crappie less than 2' under the surface in 30' water on night were the air temp was in the teens, you never know till you try. well i hope this helps good luck jeff
if fishing a new area on a nightstalk, your best bet is to have a lake map with the underwater topo marked and set up on a point or channel in water 20 ft or deeper. the map will make it easier to locate without too much sonar searching. i seldom see bait when i anchor. the lights you put out will bring the bait and most times the fish will follow. If you see fish hangin out in the area its a plus, but i wouldnt worry too much if you dont see any bait. like i said, the lights will draw the bait to you. the deciding factor on where ill set up is where the wind is gonna be blowing. windy conditions make it a lot worse on nightstalking, so find a place thats sheltered from the nights wind. soon you will have spots on your lake located thats good, and you can head to the one that the winds will not be bothering you without any searching.
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
HEy Guys: I was born & raised in Edgefield and started fishing THE HILL with my family when it was first opened. I live on Kerr lake in Middleburg, NC now. My parents are deceased but I have a real good friend that I visit a couple times a year. I try to make it in spring & fall. The structure fishing is not the same as old but still good at times. I am not a troller so I may be at a disadvantage but we still catch enough. Tight lines & smiles. G
