wylie nightstalk 10/23/07
got a call from cajunchris yesterday saying he and the rock (from the washingtion state bd) was heading to sc from lake weiss in alabama for some nightstalking on wylie. him and doreen has took a two week vacation to do some fishing in several southern states and a nightstalking trip to wylie was a priority :D. I knew they was coming but wasn't sure of the exact date so had to scramble to get the beast ready and get ot lined up to go with us. after hooking up with em at lake wylie we went to the nivens creek acess and set sail for some nightstalking. once there i discovered id forgotten my fold up chairs so we resorted to sittin on buckets and coolers, which wasn't too bad. its the first time ive been on wylie since the water has dropped so much and was surprised to see how bad it was. we had no trouble launching the boat tho and we was off. we set up at the first good looking spot we come to as dark was settin in and i dint wanna spend too much time looking around. doreen started the night off with a hefty thug which promply got her 5 lines and 8 of ots wrapped up in a huge mess, requiring the scissors to straighten out. :D the crappie bite was slow most of the night, but the perch and thugs kept everyone occupied which kept it from being a dull night. the weather man was discouraging when we left for the nightstalk, calling for storms and thunderstorms but as usual he proved to be wrong again. the weather was nice with some wind that continued to get worse as the night progressed. by the time we quit at midnight, it was pretty bad. we had anchored in a quiet place to start with but when the wind started picking up, we was facing directly into it. we stuck it out tho and dint change locations, as i very seldom pull anchors once they are set. we had an onboard hourly pool going and the last hour was winding down, with a double pot. as i was counting the seconds down, at 10 one of chris rods went down and he snatched it in the boat with 4 seconds to spare, which wiped the big smile off of ots face, who had the last hour till the last ten seconds. ot it just aint over till the fat lady sings. It was an enjoyable night and good to be on the water after so long an absence. we dint count the fish but did get several photos. the crappie we caught, for the most part was nice fish. weather permitting we have plans for a second trip tonight. as bad as we need the rain, i hope it stops for a few hours tonight so we can get another trip in.
