I've fished Keowee for gosh 10 plus years but never have i crappie fished it..I'll be going down next weekend for a couple days...I've always caught large mouth and spot but i've never really attempted to crappie fish that lake nor have i accidently caught one...does that lake have any in it and if so where would you advise a good spot to take a 5 year old and 7 year old out on the pontoon boat at??
I have fished Keowee a good bit too in the past, but have never crappie fished it. You know well as I do, there is not much cover in Keowee. I have seen some pretty good pictures on here of some crappie out of there and some good sized ones too! If I were to crappie fish it, I would probably ride along some docks around deep water and look for brush on my graph or you may luck up riding in some of the creeks and find some cover. If nothing else, go to one of the bigger creeks and fish around a good creek bend if you find some bait fish around. Good luck.
Thanks a lot fishline....we'll try it out and see what we come up with...i usually fish the docks for the spots...they are pretty fun to catch...it's just hard to keep the niece and nephew at bay while i try to worm fish...they do pretty well when we can tie up and put out the minnows...but yeah your right...the cover in that lake is far and few between...with this next cold spell comin through there's no tellin...we may not be able hook a minnow on!! haha....take buddy and may God Bless!!
Check the SCDNR web site the list all the fish atractors they have placed on the lake and some are around bridges. That might be a good place to start.
I got skunked on Keowee twice crappie fishing, and never went back. I started fishing greenwood for them instead. From Greenville, Lake Greenwood is a hair closer on top of it..

I've heard a lot about greenwood and it's crappie....the thing that stinks is that my sis and brother-in-law have a camper that i can use anytime and well it's on keowee....were going down on friday and going to try it for a little while...if no luck comes our way....i'll be off to play havoc on the spots!!
Hey saved, I've been fishing Keowee pretty hard for about a year now. As far as crappie fishing goes, I've had great luck at night. Although, the bite has always started real late for me, like close to midnight. Crappie fishing during the day is another ball game. Those fish attractors on the dnr site may help but I've checked alot of them out with an aquavu camera and there isn't much to them.
Check out stamp creek, all the way up to little river and the old wooden bridge. The crappie there are smaller in that area but plentiful. Also, try Crowe creek. There are numerous brush piles near the boat landing. A buddy and I fished that area Saturday, when the fish seemed to have lockjaw, and caught six. But all six were over two pounds and would provide a thrill for the little ones going with you.
If you want more detailed info on where these brush piles are, shoot me a message, and I'll give you more details.
