    Default Congaree Last Night

Put in at 601 at about 5:30. Started catchin some blue gills for bait and that's where i should've stayed. I got into some slab shellcrackers and blue gills. About 6 the pa in law was ansy so we went and set up in an area i had planned and looked forward to. I had found a deep hole in an eddy and was going to put starfires out. The only problem was it was eddying so much the boat would just spin with only one anchor so that palnn was foiled. Ended up just above the Wateree and the mosquitos came strong. Left about 9:00 with one 14.5 # blue and a cooler full of bait/nice bream which I will fry tomorrow afternoon. Water was slow, clear, and 67 degrees. I must say even though the trip was not that succesful quarry wise but an evening on that river is truly peaceful except for the occasional JA that peeds along to close. I look forward to returning after this front blows through.

Were you catching the shellcracker in the river. I never did learn how to fish the swif water. I was wanting to try Broadwater this past week, but was under the weather with food poisioning.. Hope to try it next week though.

Nope found some out of the way small ponds that were full of white perch. As we were catching them for bait<which I don't think is good> I stumbled across some big shellcrackers off stumps and limbs in about 6 feet of water. Should have stayed right there but had to move because of the boat owner. I filleted 3 today and wii fry them tomorrow if that gives you any idea of the size. Pure slabs. No fast moving water.

Sounds really good. I think I'll start in Indigo Flats first next week and maybe Riser old landing.

Let me know how you do and I'll try to steer you as best I can up further toward Orangeburg. I'm quickly falling in love with river fishing. Although I have only gotten the good parts of it. I hope significant rain is on the way. We need it.

Big rain in Orangeburg since about 2 this morning. Still falling in buckets but I know we need it terribly.

    COACH,
Don't think them white perches don't make good bait cause they do both channels and blues love them. .. I mainly have caught them cut in half with most of the gut cavity intak with the head.. I throw the tail part away. But they will hit them and stripers love the whole perch alive. :D

I feed them everyone they want.:D
    If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D

Never hadc much luck with them but they are easy to catch for bait. I'll try to cut them in half next time. I really want to get a couple of nice fat gizzard shad but I'm having trouble locating them and I don't want to drive from OGB to Santee and then back to 601. You could put in at Low Falls and go to Pack's but I want to fish and learn the area close to home.
