Fred and I got down to Wateree first time this season. We started at Fred's with a flat tire on the truck that held us up for about 45 minutes. We got to Ned's and picked up 4 dozen shad and made it to Wateree after 8 AM. Started fishing at Stumpy Pond Dam and moved on down the river by noon. We had three stripers in the boat by noon. Pulled up to one of our favorite spots and caught nine more stripers by 5PM. Let one catfish go that we caught up at the dam and headed home. Fished cut bait most of the day but started catching a few stripers on live shad toward evening. We saw one other boat near us that had six stripers by noon but they left about then. All in all a good day on wateree. WaterTemp was 60-63 degrees, water clarity was good but not excellent. Photos attached: 12 stripers totaled just over 31 lbs. Largest fish was 4 lb and smallest was 1.5 lb. If you are headed down they were biting today. Wind was a real chore however, gusting to 30+mph from about 11 AM till we left. Rough getting back in as the wind direction was from the South moving up the river. We put in at Wateree Landing. Thats Fred in his boat.
Good catch, I saw you this morning up near the dam there was another boat fishing the power lines that looked kinda like your boat wonder how there day went?Maybe the bigger fish will come soon.
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....
there would be a shortage of fishing poles !
Nice catch!
