Can you guys check in to how much rain you are getting in the your region. I'm planning on hitting the congaree Friday night and I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect from the water. Also, I'm thinking of dropping two starfires over the side. If it will attract baitfish namely shad do you not think it will in turn attract cats and maybe a striper or two? I know the smell of a school of shad would have to roll down tthe current. I know the big boys will not come into the light but I would guess they might come just downstream on the backside of it. Has anyone ever tried this or do you think it is worthwhile? The philosophy makes sense. I am going to fish the edge of a 23 feet hole that in turn backs up to an eddy. If I can place the lights so they'll be right on the edge of the hole and in turn get the shad into the hole with bait right underneath them I would think I might have found a plan. Any thoughts? If not at least fill me in on the rain.
With very limited experience hand hooking cats on the Congaree I'd probably opt to buying (or catching) my shad and fish the hole in the dark vrs. chancing bumping the fish using the light. I would think the hole being right below the eddy would be enough to attract the big 'uns to lie in wait for their next meal. JMO though.![]()

Most catfish want come near the light like that. They will hang around the outside of it like you said.It sounds like a good plan I would just make sure you can cast a long way away from the light. If your not gettin nothin for a while cut the lights out and see waht happens.
aThanks Chris. That will be the plan. I'm hoping to get the bait in the area and start a frenzy and that's it. It doesn't hurt to try new things. It all sounds good on paper.
Yeah it does.Let us know cause I will start doin it more often too.lol
It was couldy all day long in columbia & yes it did rain BUT not enough to raise the water or make it muddy ,,,, unless we get more than we already have it should have litte or no affect on the river below columbia
