Went an trolled catawba creek from 7:30to9:00 2 thugs no crappie.Went down to Boyd Cove an slow trolled minnows an the war was on with the perch.I couldnt keep 2 rods in the water the perch was eating me out of house an home .Didnt have but 3 dozen mnnows with me.2 hours later I had 4 thugs an 24 perch an no more minnows.I hope the buzzards like the perch as much as the perch liked those minnows.Dont care much about catching perch but I dont throw them back because they multiply 3 times any other fish an eat up the eggs.
the last night stalk i went on, i ripped the gills out of the perch, threw em back and watched either a big cat, or bass swirl on em all night long. the others i just gave to OT :D
i sware some of them wernt bigger than the minnows i was using
if at first you dont succeed............drink another beer
Gotta go.......FISH ON !!
I only fish on days that end in"Y"
yeah, when you cut on the nightstalking lights the perch gather in like the illegals do at the local walmarts on a friday or saturday night.Originally Posted by pete

them perch are GOOD catfish bait. Big 'uns eat well, leftovers make good fertilizer
hey rango, if those perch are as bad as them burrito boys at wally world we have got a big problemo C.
I guess it's all in your perspective but up here in northern Virginia folks are all hepped up about the annual white perch run. They come up out of the Chesapeake to spawn in the Potomac. The big females are of good size and contribute to a lot of fish fries. When I'm down at Wateree, however, I can't seem to catch any bigger than my hand.
as far as the eating goes, id rather have a perch.they are some fine eatin, no doubt about it. we catch some pretty nice ones, but by and large most of what we catch are about three finger stuff, aggravating bait thieves, that not many folks care about messing with. driftfishing live shiners at wateree for striper we catch some really nice ones. but if im fishing for crappie or striper the perch bite is aggravating to contend with. they wasnt much perch around till about three years ago. they appeared on the scene suddenly and looks like they here to stay so we gonna have to learn to live with em.....Originally Posted by dennisafields

I lived on Wylie in the 90's and don't ever remember catching a white perch. Now they seem to be getting dominant. Do you think that they were stocked by DNR? I can't figure how they came on so quick.
