So I just googled white crappie. These do appear to be white ones. I guess the vertical bars distinguish them. Obviously, I’m new to this crappie stuff too. I was just glad to be catching them period.

Black Crappie have 6 splines in their dorsal fin, White have 5. White Crappie usually display black vertical bars on their side and the Black is a consistent darker shade.

Thanks Ray! Yall will have to excuse my ignorance on the subject. I guess if i have caught whites in the past, i didnt realize it. Interesting not many people have caught these in the Greenwood area. I was up the Saluda river a ways, but still interesting to know.

Looks like a cooler full of whites to me! I fish Greenwood regularly and have been my whole life. Have probably had 500 or so crappie over the edge of my boat out of Greenwood this year and none have been whites, including 90-100 in two days of fishing this past weekend. I have never caught a white crappie out of Greenwood, so that is very interesting would love to know what area of the lake you caught them in.

I was a good ways up the Saluda river. Since I’m not a biologist, I can’t say why I caught whites. I was just trying to catch crappie in general. What part of lake did you catch all those last wkd?

Did those whte crappie still have eggs in 'em? When cleaning 'em did you notice what they were feeding on? Nice catch. Congrats.
