    Default Velvet Ants

I had posted a picture of a Velvet Ant the other day and we had a short discussion about how painful their sting is. Here is a video about them and thought some may like seeing it.

Seen them all my life here in Rock Hill. Never messed with them. Grand maw always told us not to touch them. I know they run around fast looking for what ever they're needing. They are pretty neat looking!

They are actually a member of the wasp family. Nature's warning color: RED.

I picked one up as a kid. Trust me, I haven't been near another one since.

I saw 1 last week in the backyard while closing the gate. Why is it you only see 1 maybe..maybe 2 at a time but no more? Also like Fisherfore said they see them once a month, heck I may not see one the rest of the summer. Why is that?

We see them once a week or so. Don't have a clue, we always see them one at a time also.

Maybe it's because they're so mean they don't even get along with each other?
