Couple questions here about which rods to pick up.
- Older 9 or 10ft rods or the new Crappie Hunter Rods? Anyone used any of the newer Hunter rods yet?

Joe, these other boys can get you going on the crappie. I am mostly a striper fisherman. I prefer a 7-0 ft, one piece rod with a long handle and trigger. I bait fish 90 % of the time and I like a limber, soft tip that will allow the bait to work up and down real easy. I still want enough backbone to stop a 10-15 lb. fish. I use ambassador 4600's, and spool with 14 lb. test line, nothing heavier. The Ugly Stik medium/light is what I look for. They are sometimes hard to find. Some of my rods are Copperheads that work just fine. I am trying to replace them with the uglies a couple at a time. When I bottom fish in the rivers, I use amb 6500's and the Eagle Claw rods (the yellow ones) and 25 lb. test line.
Joe , I looked at the crappie hunter rods at wally world the other day and if I was to have th chance over again....I would still buy the ugly stik crappie rods.I just got 4 of them and I love them. The crappie hunters seem to be more like the BnM rods.A lot more limber and a tiny tip.You cant go wrong with an ugly stik in my book.If you buy something else , chances are that like Thumper you'll be looking to upgrade one day.If only I had the money to buy all the rods I "need".
Commercial fishermen help feed the world.
My Wally World don't have many ugly sticks to take a look at. I figured the crappie hunters would have been better. Guess this might fall under: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

ugly stick also makes a 9 ft spinning rod, rated for 4-20 lb line. this rod works great for live baiting striper, drifting for catfish and drifting for crappie. its a great all round rod teamed with mitchell 300's

Joe, I'm sure there is a Dick's Sporting Goods in Greenville. They usually have a better selection of Uglies than BPS in the stores. I guess I'm kinda weird. I gotta have my hands on a rod before I will buy it. No mail order for me!!![]()
me to thumper. i gotta check the rod out to make sure it meets my expectations. its suprising how much two identical rods can differ when you shake em, one in each hand..Originally Posted by Thumper1

Well I was just doing some research for April, and I know there are some folks on here that have actual experence with these rods. Not just flailing them around in the store like a sword fighter. Wasn't planning on ordering them on line. We do have a Dick's here somewere. I will try to stop by when I have a chance.

As I was looking for a pic of Rango for his birthday thread, I ran across this picture.
I caught something I have not noticed before. These rods are not the same length. I am wondering if it would be better to stager the rod lengths like in the picture, vs having all 9 or 10ft rods out there?
