Hey Rango last year sometime in mid-march you guys started catching a few stripers up in the river. I got in on the tail end of that last year. Please let me know when they start running up the river. I want to drag Thumper and Yank down there and fish the river a time or two. I will even bring a big cooler full of meds and the grill!
Thanks
Tim
they should be close to making an apperance in there. e and bam is going down today and rafdaddy is going tomorrow. we should know more after i hear from them.
listen with your eyes---its the only way to beleive what you hear...
we went to wateree yesterday, actually to stumpy pond,it was basically unfishable, trash and current, water was going over the dams,as high as i have ever seen it,we left there and rode around to Wateree creek and the dock was about underwater, water is terribly muddy, trash everywhere, may be good for cats, but thats about it,I too am ready for the striper run, there was a few boats out,but we went ahead and called it a day since the wind had gotten so bad too
The water is begining to fall. We can see the top boards of the dock. With any luck and no additional rainfall, next weekend may be better. Trash is continuing to make it's way down and the color is very muddy indeed! We can hope for clear skies!
we went to Wateree yesterday also, water was very high. Almost had water coming in the truck when we were putting the toon in the water. We put in at Beaver Creek, stayed out all day but only because we slid the boat into the trees trying to wait out the wind. When we came back across the lake heading to the landing water was about the roughest I have seen on Wateree. We only managed to find a bunch of small cats. The water did drop a few inches in the course of the day, but was still tons of trash floating. Think I'm gonna wait a coulple of weeks before heading back out. Working on an enclosure for the toon.
We did see a few shad moving around finally. Water temp was 55 to 56 in the backs of creeks, and 52 to 53 on the main lake.
A guy I go to church with went thursday and caught 2 up towards cedar creek, both around three pounds.St.Patricks day is bout the earliest I have ever caught them in the river.
HEY,,WATCH THAT YELLOW ROD
I did talk to a guy at the landing Saturday that said he and a friend were crappie fishing earlier in the week up past wateree creek and couldn't keep the stripers off of their minnows. He said they were dragging minnows close to the bottom for crappie and were catching stripers and white bass. A couple of the stripers had to be bent to go in his 48qt cooler(so the fishing tale went). Maybe when the water gets down they will be up on that end.
