we was doing a nightstalk up in catawba last year, 1/12/05 and this guy i was fishing with caught a nice little striper on a crappie minnow.. the photo below shows bandman with his fish. I think it was 19 inches. they are in wylie and i sure wish the game depts could get their act together and get a fishable population stocked in wylie. because them childish heathens cant get their act together the fishermen everywhere has to pay the price....

Don't get me started on this one! I have called the S.C. dnr and e-mailed the N.C. dnr several times about them not being able to get together and share the cost of stocking stripers in Wylie. There are stripers in EVERY major lake in S.C., N.C., and Ga. EXCEPT Wylie. Everybody that cares needs to get in touch with the dnr's and their state representatives and get behind this. I'm tired of driving 2 hours to fish when I live 10 min. from Wylie.

    Angry U might...

want to be careful what you hope for.Them stripers and hybrids,AND AT THE TOP OF THE LIST IS THEM&^$%^$%%&*()()* WHITE PERCH--THEY EAT ANY AND ALL THE EGGS THEY CAN FIND,hartwell and russell have taken a heavy toll on the crappie and bream.I firmly believe that and don't even try to change my mind.Use to you could catch loads of any pan fish in either one of these lakes.Sure you can hit'em sometimes and it seems like the good ole days---till the next time you go and it seems like the dead sea.Course ain't nothing like it used to be.I'll tell you this--I kill every white perch that comes to my boat--don't mater if its 2" or 2 lbs--dead--dead--dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    sam1,
I don't want to ruffle your feathers but, the decline of the fish population is most likely caused by the polution in the lake not by the different kinds of fish. I lived on the Chesapeake and we could catch Bass, crappie, white perch,rock(stripers),etc....until the polution got so bad it killed all the grass and than every thing else. There's no way the perch and stripers could eat all the eggs of the crappie. First off they all spawn the same time and these lakes are big enough for all of them. Maybe you should turn your anger towards the sewage spills every year or the trash that gets thrown in the lakes. If the people of the carolinas would be better stewards of the resources the fish would be fine. Look on the side of the roadways do you really think the bottom of the lakes are any better, at least the inmates pick up the road trash. I've picked up trash in my yard every day for the last five years and I'm sure if someone will throw it in the yard they'll throw it in the lake. If all the crappie had to worry about were the white perch that would be a good thing. Just my 2 cents, since you were venting I thought I'd get some.

I don't think the striper have hurt the crappie fishing at Wateree...the perch might be a different thing, we just started catching them in numbers several years ago. I kill all the perch I catch also...with a filet knife.:p

I Said this on another Thread BUT I will say it here ojn this one too , I for one have to agree with those that do NOT like Stripers . BUT I am NOT as Hard core as some . I will Support whatever the Other Sportsmen want to do , as I feel it is better to stick together on any issue that WE need . With That Said , Stripers have been In Santee for years & Years & Years & I have caught some HUGE Crappies there , Prolly more BIG crappie, , over 2.5 pounds than any other lake around BUT I DO Beleive that the Stripers take thier toll on Crappies , IF it were not for ALL those damn Stripers in Santee, I may have been able to Limit out on Crappies , all over 2 pounds in a day , Something I aint ever done YET !!!

I THINK this WHOLE Striper Deal is HOOKED to the License deal , its a ( please excuse the Language ) Pissing Contest between the States & I THINK MY State is leading the way ( South Carolina ) from What I have learned so far in my Mini Investgation , With the Help of Thumper , I 1st Called Herb Kirsh(sp) He is a Sr. Member of the House from York County and I am sure is a Good Man BUT lol From Talking to him , HE LOVES the money that York County is getting from the Fines & the Sales of the License from the Dual License things & Folks , as Long as you have this Issue going on & the States being mad at each other, The Striper thing AINT gonna Happen In MY HUMBLE OPINION !! An who could Blame North Carolina ??

As Mr Herb Told ME & Which if you think about it is the Truth , SC HAS MOST of the BEST Fishing Places ON thier Side , We have the FEWER Numbers of PEOPLE by FAR , YORK County is nothoing compare to its neighbor Mcklingburg county(SP) across the state line .... SO WHY DO WE WANT TO ENTER IN AN AGREEMENT ???

MY THINKING is that i do NOT live in York County , That I Bought a STATE Fishing License not a YORK COUNTY License, I do NOT hunt on the Property that he Just bought in York County & never will. & that Making Money off the Tax Payers of North and South Carolina just isnt RIGHT NO MATTER what it is USED FOR !!!!

Folks Boys Girls Men Women , EVERYBODY , UNTILL you get the States of NC & SC DNR to get along , this is a NO GO , and UNTILL you get a License agreement , that isnt gonna happen in MY BOOK , SO & SAY WE need to TALK with EVERYBODY that is ANYBODY & get this thing Changed Mr Herb is a Sr Member of the House , HE however IS NOT the Gov. and the PEople of South Carolina is the Ones that SHOULD have the Last say in THIS matter !! I for ONE say IT IS STUPID TO have to BUY 2 License to Fish ONE Lake , that CAN NOT have Stripers in it BEcause of the SAME Reason !!

Sorry for the Thread drift & my Rambling

    Allen
