Jimmy, as soon as the water cools down my longlines will come back out. I have not spider rigged all year! Got tied up with longlining and can't seem to go back to rigging. Heck, I'm still picking up jigs when I find another color I want to try. Been tying for the past two months so I'm going to have a lot of jigs to pull over the fall and winter. I look forward to re-installing my heater :D I can put on enough things to stay warm but this heat is kicking me .
I spider rig with minnows and I have 'almost forgot' what a minnow looks like, LOL but my spider rigging rods are setting on ready just in case!!

Yeah its surprises me still how small of a fish will hit those crankbaits. I have trouble with those little ones who get all three of the hooks in em at once.

You are so right! They get 3 hooks and I get the other 3 trying to remove the hook from them

    Default Crankin' in the heat

    Ronnie,

These days catching a few is about all I expect. But in my book it is still worthwhile to catch a handful for supper in the first couple of hours of the day than it is for me to sit on the sofa and long for autumn to arrive!

Glad you got to meet Wendell. He's a great guy, and if he was out with a party, I know he appreciated the fish.

I made my first crankbaiting trip a week ago today. I hooked a 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 lb largemouth within 10 seconds! "This will be the day!" was the first thought that came to mind....can you guess what happened? Yep, it was 1 hr and 45 minutes later before a 2nd rod bent, and it was an identical sized bass....heck, it could have been the same fish! :D

I caught a few small crappie longlining after that in the heat of the morning but they were obviously some of gabowman's throwbacks. They all had his thumbprint on their lower jaw! :D
