My son and I went to the swamp today and things are looking up. I haven't cleaned them yet. But I think that there are about 15 crappie.. They were in about 4 feet of water and we were useing my normal Black/Chartreuse jig under a small plastic bobber...
It's alway good to spend a day with the son. Catching some fish doesn't hurt either.

Good to see something come'n out them woods. The water wasn't pull'n the other morning Monday i think I was over on packs side doin my other love this time of year.. (duck hunting) and I notice that the empty shell cases weren't moving from around us. Saturday I lost a decoy from being pull thru there. (anchor line came loose.) So I'm a guessin that the water was still?? Anyway good catch.
If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D
Hi Stumpjumper
The water wasn't coming in from the river. It's been a long time since I saw that. But it was coming down from the "Flats" but not bad. And times it looked like it almost stopped and then a little later it would pick back up...
Here'e is a place that you can look at what the water is doing at the "Saw Dust Pile" It's samples every 15 mins.

And another that you can look at the different river around the state.

You can play around with the different windows and you can get the reading printed out every 15 mins. in a chart...
As we left Broadwater and was about a half mile up the river a flock of about a dozen turkeys flew across the river. That was the first ones that I've seen in the swamp like that.
There were a lot of trailers at the 601 landing. Most had to be duck hnters, because I didn't but 4 fishing yesterday.

Hi,
I was wondering what is the swamp? Where is the 601 Landing? Everyone catching crappie seem to be fishing deep but you guys caught fish in four feet of water. I am just curious and hope I don't sound nosey.![]()
Iamfishing
No problem. 601 is hi-way 601 about 40 miles south of Columbia. There is a landing where it crosses the Congaree River. We go about 7 miles down the river and the is a small creek that comes into the river. We go in about 1 mile and it widens up and the there is about another 2-3 miles of area that you can fish. If you don't get lost. I can send a couple more pictures of the area, where it's little larger. The deepest holes are about 10-12 feet.

What a difference a day makes. We went today and didn't even get a bite. The water came up 1.2 feet in the past 30 hours. We had 1" of rain Wednesday night in Columbia and there was more South of here.![]()
The water had turned dingy and was up. I noticed on the river web page that the river has started to drop so maybe in a few days I'll have to try it again...
Everyone was in the swamp hunting ducks. Didn't see any until we got back to the landing and was pulling back to the main hiway and looked into the woods where the water had backed up and saw 2 pair of mallards. I could have shot them with a pellet gun... Smart ducks...
